2010 Introduction to Beekeeping

Short Course

The Hagerstown Valley Apian Society (HVAS) has scheduled a beekeeping short course for beginners, and anyone wanting to know more about bees and beekeeping.

Course Topics and Session Dates:

February 13: Introduction, History and Biology of the Honeybee

Beekeeping Equipment

Maintaining Healthy Bees

February 27: Fall and Winter management

Spring and Summer management

Products of the hive;

Income Opportunities with Honeybees

April 17: Field day – Hands-on hive

experience with the bees

if you want to learn bee-keeping or just hone

your beekeeping skills from qualified local

instructors and active area beekeepers.

ALTERNATE BEEKEEPING COURSE INFORMATION


HVAS members who cannot take the HVAS beginner's course Feb 13 and 27 8:45AM to 3:00 PM, please be aware that Eastern Panhandle Beekeepers Association is holding an advanced course Feb 13, 20 and 27 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and a beginners course Monday Feb 15 for six weeks 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Details and application forms on EPBA website: WVEPBA.org. The two organizations are practicing reciprocity, so if you went to belong to only one organization, you only have to pay one set of membership dues. Those who wish to belong to both organizations may do so, of course.

Directions:

 

From I-70 at Hagerstown, MD.
Take exit 29 to Rt. 65 (toward Sharpsburg). Travel south on Rt. 65 for approximately 6 miles. to the Washington County Agricultural Center on the left.  Park in the lot on the left and enter the building thru the side door on the left of the building.
